Project Overview

A block screen behind glass, a block screen along the boundary.

Mydin Mall Bukit Mertajam is a major retail destination on the Penang mainland, designed to handle high public foot traffic while maintaining a strong architectural identity. In addition to functionality and durability, the building design includes distinctive façades that incorporate texture, light, and rhythm. PBM VentBlocks were selected for both their visual appeal and modular flexibility to enhance the building’s envelope and site boundaries.
Use of PBM Ventilation Blocks
🧱 VB 150.200 – Building Façade (Behind Glass)
Although traditionally used for airflow, in this project VB 150.200 blocks were installed behind glass panels, serving a purely architectural purpose. The angled rectangular profiles create a dramatic light-and-shadow effect, especially under changing daylight conditions. This detail adds depth, texture, and filtered visual privacy while maintaining a clean internal façade.
•🧱 VB 604.125 – Fencing Wall
Used along the site perimeter, VB 604.125 blocks provide a practical fencing solution that balances security and visibility. Their slot-style profile offers visual transparency while defining boundaries, creating a durable and aesthetically consistent barrier.
